Deir Ezzor: 5 Liwa al-Quds militants killed in Daesh landmine

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Daesh (ISIS) killed five pro-regime Palestinian militants Wednesday in a landmine attack in eastern Deir Ezzor province, activists said.

Liwa al Quds, a Russian-trained militia primarily comprised of Palestinians, operates in eastern Syrian and in the Syrian Desert.

The militia has suffered a high number of fatalities in last few months.

Several snap attacks and ambushes have been reported in recent weeks by the Islamic State in the Syrian Desert and areas near the Iraqi border.

The Islamic State still controls a territory in the gas-rich desert lies between Homs and Deir Ezzor provinces.

Two Republican Guard officers were killed in an ambush laid by Daesh (ISIS) in the border town of Albukamal, a former stronghold for the radical group.

One of the slain officers was Lieutenant Colonel Rawad al-Hassan, originally from Homs city, who gained fame for his brutality during the almost nine-year-old war.

Rebels and jihadists have killed more than 135,000 pro-regime forces since the armed conflict erupted eight years ago with the brutal repression of protests against the Assad regime, according to local monitoring groups.

The conflict in Syria has also killed more than 560,000 people and displaced 6.5 millions.
