(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian armed opposition killed senior army officer in a rocket attack on an army base in northern Idlib province, activists said Wednesday.
Maj. General Sami Mohamed was killed Tuesday when National Army forces rocked his base with Grad rocket in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Russian-backed Regime forces have been bombarding southern and eastern Idlib province, the last rebel stronghold in the war-torn country, since late November. A ground offensive that began in mid-December has killed more than 120 people and displaced 284,000.
Pro-regime media outlets mourned more than 100 army forces in the past three weeks.
Rebels and jihadists have killed more than 135,000 pro-regime forces since the armed conflict erupted eight years ago with the brutal repression of protests against the Assad regime, according to local monitoring groups.
The conflict in Syria has also killed more than 560,000 people and displaced 6.5 millions.
