19 forces from Latakia province killed in December: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 19 army forces from coastal Latakia province were killed in December in clashes with Syrian rebels, activists said.

The death toll included Brigadier General and three more officers from the main stronghold for Bashar al-Assad's manpower.

The war wheel has been rolling again in strategic Kabana hilltops, north of Latakia, and Idlib province after the fall of a fragile ceasefire.

More than 120 regime troops have been killed in Idlib clashes in two months, according to activists.

Rebels and jihadists have killed more than 135,000 pro-regime forces since the armed conflict erupted eight years ago with the brutal repression of protests against the Assad regime, according to local monitoring groups.

The conflict in Syria has also killed more than 560,000 people and displaced 6.5 millions.
