Landmine kills Turkish citizen in Tal Abyad border crossing

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Turkish truck driver was killed in a landmine explosion in the grains silos near Tal Abyad border crossing in northeastern Syria, sources told Zaman al-Wasl Thursday.

The YPG-planted landmine has wounded five more people, including two Turkish citizens.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) withdrew from Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain regions on October 20 under a ceasefire deal with Turkey brokered by the United States.

Turkey considers the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG, terrorists for their links to a decades-long Kurdish insurgency inside Turkey that has killed tens of thousands. The same fighters were the United States' partners on the ground in fighting the Islamic State group.
