Lebanon: river flood displaced 700 refugees

(Zaman Al Wasl)- About 700 Syrian refugees have been displaced due to a river flood in the Lebanese district of Akkar, one of the refugees told Zaman al-Wasl Saturday.

The floods of Awaik River have destroyed about 100 tents in the camp, said Abu Yazan.

The Mediterranean country of around 4.5 million people says it hosts some 1.5 million Syrians, of which nearly a million are UN-registered refugees.

Nine years of war in Syria have killed 560 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighboring countries.
