Assad barrel bombs target two mosques in Aleppo


ALEPPO (Zaman Alwasl)- Syrian army helicopters dropped barrel bombs on several neighborhoods in Aleppo on Friday, killing at least 4 people and dozens wounded, opposition activists and monitoring group said.

Zaman Alwasl reporter said 4 people were killed when Assad’s barrel bomb rocked Haroun Dadeh Mosque in Kadi Askar Neighborhood, where the building had reduced to ruins.

Also, Aleppo Eyewitness site reported huge destruction near Bader Mosque in Bustan al-Qasr Neighborhood.

The Britain-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory said Helicopters dropped explosive barrels on Bani Zaid, Al-Haydaria, and al-Ashrafia neighborhoods, no reports of casualties.

Syrian Red Crescent volunteers were able to re-pump the water to al-Martini, al-Miridian , al-Mohafaza, al-Kawakbi, Saif al-Dawla and al-Entaj Souq this evening, the observatory said.

Barrel bombs, which are drums packed with explosives and shrapnel, can level entire buildings with one hit.

Rescue efforts were under way as volunteers used bulldozers to clear wreckage and remove the rubble of the bombed buildings, according to the opposition.  

Meanwhile, violent clashes are taking place between regime forces backed by Hezbollah, NDF against Jabhat al-Nusra and many Islamic battalions around the central prison of Aleppo, according to the observatory and Zaman Alwasl reporter.

Hazm movement fighters targeted a tank for the regular forces around Azan mount in the southern countryside of Aleppo, what devastated it, reports of human losses in regime forces,  the observatory said.

Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed more than 162,000 people, a third of them civilians, and caused millions to flee.
