Assad's forces, rebels to reach truce in Waer, Homs

(Zaman Alwasl)- A document, obtained by Zaman Alwasl, showed main points rebels and regime forces agreed on to reach a ceasefire truce in al-Waer neighborhood near the central city of Homs.

The document called for the withdrawal of rebel and Islamist fighters from Waer neighborhoods under the supervision of regime forces.  Also to release all detainees and to allow all displaced returning Home.

Activists said no truce entered into force so far.

The planned truce comes after ‘historical truce’ in Homs last month when 1200 rebel fighters evacuated the Old City neighborhoods after almost two years of war and siege.

Recent truces in Homs were patronized by the Iranian mediator, Assad’s main ally, and civil committees and the United Nations in the presence of representatives from the Iranian and Russian embassies.

Activists accused al-Assad of seeking to change the demography of Homs by allowing rebels to evacuate from the city's besieged quarter but predicted such a plan would fail

Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed more than 162,000 people, a third of them civilians, and caused millions to flee.
