Rebels of Al Waer neighborhood refuse Assad's truce: Homs

(Zaman Alwasl)- Rebels of the embattled neighborhood of al-Waer near the central city of Homs have refused the Iranian mediation over ceasefire agreement, according to video statement.

A document, obtained by Zaman Alwasl, showed main points the Iranian mediators called for: The withdrawal of rebel and Islamist fighters from Waer neighborhoods under the supervision of regime forces. To release all detainees and to allow all displaced returning Home.

Rebels said Regime had offered only two options, ‘Truce or barrel bombs.’

Last month, the capital of Syrian revolution witnessed a ‘historical truce’ when 1200 rebel fighters evacuated the Old City neighborhoods after almost two years of war and siege.

Recent truce in Homs was patronized by the Iran, Assad’s main ally, and civil committees and the United Nations in the presence of representatives from the Iranian and Russian embassies.

Activists accused al-Assad of seeking to change the demography of Homs by allowing rebels to evacuate from the city's besieged quarter but predicted such a plan would fail.

Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed more than 162,000 people, a third of them civilians, and caused millions to flee.
