Deir Ezzor: Assad forces launch conscription campaign, 63 arrested

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime forces have arrested at least 63 men in eastern Deir Ezzor province in a campaign tracking young people who escaped the military service, local activists said Monday.

The arrest campaign have also included wanted people in the oil-rich province which is divided between the US-backed Kurdish forces and Iran-run militias.

At least 50 people were detained last week.

Also in Deir Ezzor, the Iranian-backed militias are still entering Syria using the AlBukamal border crossing with Iraq, where the Coronavirus virus is spreading, according to local residents and Western intelligence sources.

Iran, one of the countries most affected by the pandemic outside China, is Syria’s main regional ally and operates military and civilian flights that bring the militia fighters into the country.

Nearly 383,000 people have now been confirmed with the coronavirus globally, and while at least 102,500 people have recovered from COVID-19, more than 16,573 have died, according to data from WorldOMeter.
