1.4 Million Syrian children vaccinated in polio campaign


Polio Control Task Force announced that 1,393,173 children have been vaccinated during 6 days

within the sixth round of the mobile polio campaign in Syria, which covers the liberated areas in seven governorates: Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Deir al Zour, Latakia, Raqqa and Hasaka.

The Sixth round is come to complete the previous five rounds which is repeated vaccination of children themselves in each round as well as to vaccinate the children who have not been vaccinated in the previous rounds, and they will be considered to another two additional rounds to ensure the eradication of polio in Syria.

The number of children vaccinated in the sixth round by the provinces,  Aleppo 545,861 in Idlib 248,985 in Al Raqa 214,491 in Dier Alzoor 289,558 in Alhasaka 47,855 in Hamah 39,402 in Latakia 4,8883 Childrens. The vaccination teams in the province of Hama has been able to reach the area Jeb Aljrah and parts of the Syrian Desert in the province of Homs and vaccinated 2,138 children.

The Polio Control Task Force has launched a campaign earlier this year to vaccinate against polio include areas beyond the control of the Assad regime in seven provinces after the appearance of polio disease cases in those areas, The campaign will extended to a full of six rounds in a row, Six rounds has been completed. The first round vaccinated more than 1.25 million children, The second vaccinated of more than 1.4 million children, The third vaccinated more than 1.41 million children, The fourth round vaccinated about 1.44 million children, The fifth vaccinated more than 1.38 million children and the sixth round vaccinated more than 1.39 million children. And there for they will be two more rounds over the next few weeks to complete the full immunization of polio in Syria.

Polio Control Task Force was established by combining the efforts of the ACU, Local Councils, Health departments and a number of None Governmental Local and International Organizations, Polio Control Task Force started “END POLIO IN SYRIA” campaign with more than 8,000 volunteers including more than 200 Doctors.
