Assad army deploys troops in Eastern Euphrates areas

(Zaman Al Wasl)- About 100 military trucks carrying 1200 troops and 15 tanks moved from Saraqeb town in northern Idlib province and headed the areas of Eastern Euphrates, rebel source told Zaman al-Wasl Monday.

The redeployment for the elite 25th Division in eastern Syria followed massive reinforcements by regime army in the eastern region of Idlib province/

Rebel sources said troops from the First Divions, the 9th Division, the Republican Guards, in addition to pro-Iran militias have been stationed in Saraqeb, Maaret al-Numan and Jabal al-Zawya area.

Turkey, which backs rebels opposed to Bashar al-Assad, agreed a ceasefire with Russia four weeks ago. Moscow supports Syrian regime forces.

The truce halted a terrifying three-month air and ground campaign that killed hundreds and sent 1 million people fleeing toward the Turkish border.

The agreement did not force the Assad forces to roll back significant military gains made in Russian-backed offensive for the past three months.

Also, Turkish army trucks entered Idlib province on Friday, carrying US air missile systems, local activists said.

According to the military news sites, the HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) MIM-23 is an all-weather low to medium altitude ground-to-air missile system developed.

In March, Turkish forces have set up six observation points in al-Ghassaneyah, Bidama, al-Najiyeh, and al-Zainiya, al-Misherfah and Tel Khattab, an array of villages located in the Jisr al-Shughour region.

The nine-year-old war has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and forced 13 million people from their homes, half of whom have left their shattered homeland.
