(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkey is due to open a commercial border crossing with Ras Al-Ayn region northeastern Syria, seeking to supply the residents with basic products and goods, local activists told Zaman al-Wasl Wednesday.
A source from the local governing council said that Turkish officials agreed to their request to open a commercial crossing between Ceylanpınar and Ras al-Ayn.
A 15,000m² plot of land in northern Abra neighborhood was rented to Turkey for two years to establish the road within this land leading to the temporary crossing,, the source added.
About 100 traders have applied for a commercial register to start moving supplies from Turkey.
The border town of Ras al-Ayn is suffering from scarcity of agricultural, industrial and alimentary supplies due to a siege imposed by Kurdish forces.
The Turkish military and the Syrian National Army attacked Kurdish forces in Ras Al-Ayn region on October 9 with the aim of creating a roughly 30-kilometer (20-mile) deep buffer zone.
Kurdish forces agreed to withdraw from a 120-kilometer (75 mile) long, Arab-majority segment of the 440-kilometer (275-mile) border zone, although clashes have been reported since.
Turkey subsequently reached a deal with the Syrian regime's main backer Russia for Kurdish forces to pull back from the entire border area.
