Assad siege on southern Sanamayn town enters sixth week

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The siege imposed by regime on southern Sanamayn town has entered the sixth week amid deteriorating living and health conditions.

Daraa24, local news site, said the regime army has blocked the entry of aid and basic staples into the key town in Daraa province, such a punitive measure followed rebels attack on military positions last March.

Rebels launched surprise attacks early March on multiple regime bastions in the towns of al-Sanamayn, Sheikh Saad, Sahm al-Joulan and Jilin.

In retaliation, the regime army backed by tens of tanks stormed al-Sanamayn town.

The revival of armed conflict in southern Syria followed skirmishes in the past few months after calm for over two years followed a Russian-brokered surrender deal.

Syria's conflict has killed more than 390,000 people and displaced millions since 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-regime protests.
