Fifth Division foils attack by Druze armed group on Busra al-Sham

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Tensions renewed in southern Syria when an armed group from Sweida city, Syria's main Druze stronghold, attacked Russian-backed forces in the neighboring Town of Busra al-Sham.

Source told Zaman al-Wasl that the armed group clashed with units of the Fifth Division, mostly locals. One fighter from Sweida city was killed.

Early April, three troops from the Druze community were released by an armed group in Daraa province.

The Druze stronghold of Swedia, which made up three percent of Syria's population before 2011, has been spared the same scale of devastating violence, fighting and mass detainment that has rocked communities elsewhere in the country over the course of Syria's nine-year war.
