(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russian forces have set up a memorial for a Major Roman Fillipov Nikolaevich who was killed in February 2018 when rebels shot down his Su-25 in northern Idlib province, sources told Zaman al-Wasl
The memorial of Nikolaevich was set up in the town of Ma'sran near the town of Saraqeb where his SU-25 came down.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed that Nikolaevich was killed as he resisted capture by jihadists as Syrian rebels said he was already dead.
Syrians opposed to Assad see Russia as an invading force they blame for the deaths of thousands of civilians since Moscow joined the war on the side of the government in 2015.
Three months ago, Syrian regime forces backed by Russia took control of over 100 towns and villages in northern Idlib province after a major offensive killed 400 people and displaced about a million people.
