Idlib: fire destroys 25 makeshift tents in displaced camp

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A huge fire broke out at a camp for Syrian displaced in northern Idlib province, destroying 25 makeshift tents, Civil Defence said Saturday.

The blaze took hold at the Sadaqa camp at the Turkish border. No casualties were reported.

Another fire flared up on Friday in the Allaban camp near the town of Termanin. One child has died and two more children were wounded.

Idlib has long been under siege by bashar al-Assad forces and Iran proxies, and most of the previous cease-fires were plagued by violations.

About 268,000 displaced people have returned to their homes in northern Idlib province since a Russian-brokered ceasefire reached on March 6, Syria’s Response Coordination Group said Friday.

The local monitoring group has warned that constant ceasefire violations will endanger the lives of civilians and push for a new displacement wave in the region that hosts 3.5 million civilians, according to the United Nations.

The nine-year-old conflict has killed more than 400,000 people and displaced 7 millions.
