Bodyguard of Opposition Prime Minister beats Journalist, badly hurt

Mohammed Harith, the Editor of “Step” news, was assaulted and badly beaten by the bodyguard of Ahmad Tu'mah, the Prime Minister in the Interim Government during his visit to the Government’s Headquarter In Gaziantep in Turkey.

A well informed source confirmed to Zaman Alwasl that Anas al-Akel, Ahmed Tu'mah’s bodyguard, who known as “Abo Bashir”, has severely hit colleague Mohammed which resulted in wounds and bruises on his face and body, claiming that the Editor entered the waiting room without taking his shoes off while he was waiting to meet the Interim Prime Minister.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity added that assault happened in front of many Ministers and employees in the Interim Government, but no one done anything. The source mentioned that the bodyguard dragged Mohmmed Harith from the waiting room to the main entrance of the building. The injured editor called the police and reported the incidence officially planning to sue Tu'mah ad his bodyguard.

The assault coincided with the gathering of many Syrians in front of the Government’s Headquarter contesting against many issues and demanding to put a limit for salaries of the Ministers and employees in the government, and requesting to raise the wages for worker in the civil defense and medical staff working in field hospitals.

Zaman Alwasl announces its solidarity with colleague Mohammed Harith, and considers assaulting him as a direct assault on the newspaper, and will investigate more in the incidence and background around it in following reports.
