Deir Ezzor: Kurdish forces arrest 17 people over Daesh links

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The US-backed Kurdish forces have arrested 17 people in eastern Deir Ezzor province over Daesh links, activists said Thursday.

The YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) claimed the arrest campaign would secure oil fields from Daesh attacks along the Iraqi border.

The SDF has made tens of raids in the former ISIS-held territory, tracking Daesh sleeper cells.

Daesh has been largely defeated in the country but has continued to carry out ambushes, assassinations and bombings there and still poses a threat along Syria-Iraq border.

The Kurdish forces say Daesh sleeper cells are still active in eastern Syria, claiming that tens of families are still receiving salaries from the ultra-hardline Sunni militant group.
