At least eight Turkish-backed forces were killed in an attack carried out by the YPG militia in the northern Afrin region, Zaman Al Wasl reporter said.
From Tal Rifat district, the YPG militants attempted to infiltrate front lines in Bassouta area in the south of Afrin province, according to Anadolu Agency.
The attack targeted a checkpoint for Faylaq al-Sham, a key unit in the National Syrian Army.
Turkey’s military and its Syrian rebel allies seized Afrin, a mainly Kurdish district, from the YPG in March 2018 in a major offensive.
Ankara views the YPG as a terrorist group linked to Kurdish militants on its own soil and has mounted military operations in northern Syria to push it back from the border.
The nine-year-old conflict has killed more than 490,000 people and displaced 13 million.
