Blast kills seven people in border Tal Abyad town

At least 7 people, mostly women and children, were killed by a car bomb in the northeastern border town of Tal Abyad, activists said Tuesday.

The Turkish-backed local council said at least 27 others were wounded by the blast. Most of the wounded people have been admitted to a Turkish hospital at the border.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) withdrew from Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain regions last October under a ceasefire deal with Turkey brokered by the United States.

Turkey considers the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG, terrorists for their links to a decades-long Kurdish insurgency inside Turkey that has killed tens of thousands. The same fighters were the United States' partners on the ground in fighting the Islamic State group.
