The Union of Free Syrian Students held its first founding conference in Istanbul, Turkey, days ago, with physical and electronic attendance of representatives elected by 55 Syrian student societies in Syria and abroad.
A member of the founding committee of the Union, Amjad Al-Sari told Zaman al-Wasl that the conference held on Thursday dealt with talk about the idea of its founding, its vision and its goals. On the sidelines of the conference, the names of the winners of the martyrs' students competition were announced.
Also, a video showing figures and symbols, including artists, jurists and directors, was presented, in which they talked about the importance of student work, in addition to a short documentary film on the history of the student movement in Syria.
Furthermore, Al-Sari pointed out that the union that was established in 2019 includes entities located within universities in the Syrian, Turkish, European and several other countries, and the union will work to coordinate among those unions in order to serve Syrian students and represent them and achieve their interests and aspirations, and activate the student role and activate it in various Levels to further influence social, scientific and national events.
According to Al-Sari, the union also seeks to develop the role of the Syrian university youth in social mobility, while preserving independence, enhancing the national identity of the Syrian youth, advancing the Syrian students scientifically and academically, and unifying the Syrian movement in universities inside and outside Syria.
The union aims - as stated in its definition - to “unify the efforts of students to preserve their material and moral interests internally and externally" and "to activate and revitalize the student role in various levels to further influence social, scientific and national events," and "pioneering networking among active youth students University ”as their representative before the authority and public opinion.
A general conference is expected to be held a month and a half from now, including elections for the Federation's Board of Directors and other bodies.
