Syria's Response Group urges relief ORGs for active role in opposition areas

The Syrian Response Coordination Group said that the humanitarian organizations have not taken any significant action to help the people of Sarmin after two new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were recorded and precautionary quarantine was applied in the region.

The group called on international bodies to help more than 35,000 people in light of economic deterioration due to the pandemic and the limited access to basic material especially disinfection supplies.

According to the group, the need for humanitarian aid became urgent after a number of displaced people to the city, who have left it following violent military operations that destroyed a large section of its service sector.

The residents of Sarmin were recommended to implement protective measures to contain the spread of coronavirus in the coming days.

The group confirmed new waves of displacement of dozens of families from the towns and villages of the southern countryside of Idlib due to military escalation targeting residential neighborhoods and farmland.

The SRCG warned that continued military escalation in the region would lead to further displacement and to the increase in population density, especially in camps, which with the lack of necessary preventive measures and the rising number of cases in northwestern Syria, would increase the risk of infection.
