Syrian pound records new low against dollar: dealers

The exchange rate of the Syrian pound has a remarkable fall against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, for the third day in a row.

The rate of trading of the Syrian pound against dollar in the opposition-held northern Idlib province was more than the rate in regime-held areas.

Dealers said it cost as much as 2,200 Syrian pounds to buy one dollar in Damascus after rapid declines this week. 

Damascus:  2075 - 2100 SYP  for $1 for buy, and (2175 - 2200) for sale.

Aleppo: 2150 - 2175 SYP for $1for buy, and 2200 pounds for sale.

And the "dollar shield" increased by 125 liras,

Turkish-held areas: (2050 - 2075) buying, and (2100 - 2125) selling.

The northern countryside of Aleppo: 2175 SYP for buy, 2200 for sale.

Idlib:(2150 - 2200) buying, and (2375 - 2400) selling.  

The pound had traded at 47 to the dollar before protests against President Bashar al-Assad’s authoritarian rule erupted in March 2011.
