Russia warplanes conduct 10 airstrikes on northern Idlib region

Russia's fighter jets conducted ten airstrikes on rebel pockets in northern Idlib province and parts of Kabana hilltops in coastal latakia province, local reporters said Wednesday.

The fresh airstrikes have targeted the western countryside of Idlib city as well the Kaban hillops in the mountainous Jabal al-Akrad area were hit. 

No casualties have been reported so far, according to Zaman al-Wasl reporter.

Turkey, which backs rebels opposed to Bashar al-Assad, agreed a ceasefire with Russia last March after months of fighting displaced nearly 1 million people in Idlib. Moscow supports Syrian regime forces.

Also in northern Syria, the U.N. on Wednesday has dispatched 29 truckloads of humanitarian aid for the needy in Idlib.

The supplies entered the last rebel stronghold through the Cilvegozu border crossing from Turkey's southern Hatay province, Turkish Anadolu Agency reported.

The aid will be distributed among residents of Idlib and nearby rural areas.

Idlib province is home to 3.5 million civilians, according to the United Nations.

Syria has been ravaged by a civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protesters.

About a half million people have been killed and more than 13 million displaced .
