(Zaman Al Wasl)- After excelling in both his studies and work, Sajid Kasabra, was named as one of the best financial and insurance consultant in 6 companies in the city of Freiburg, few months month after joining Barmenia, one of the major independent insurance groups in Germany.
Kasabra, 25, is originally from the town of Al-Harak in southern Daraa province. As a teenager, he experience and participated in the beginning of the revolution, falling in love with the ideals it represented and its call for freedom and self-determination, becoming, according to him, both his greatest and most tragic love.
After al-Harak massacre in 2014, which led to the death of dozens of people including members of his family, Sajid moved to Libya, staying there for 6 months before moving to Egypt and then back to Libya, eventually seeking refuge in Germany.
Sajid recounted his hardships in all of the countries he visited before moving to Germany, from sleeping in hangars in Libya, to being chased and beaten by the cops in Tunisia.
In Germany, Sajid initially struggled to integrate into its foreign culture, not understanding the language and having no money. As a source of income, he had to clean bathrooms and libraries as well as distribute newspapers and magazines until dawn, and then attending school during the day.
While living with a German family, Sajid went to Internationale Hauptschule im Römerhof high school, learning the language, and then going through Ausbildung, a form of vocational training where he attended classes and worked simultaneously. He got a job contract with Gleisnost, a tourism company specializing in environmentally friendly travel, for four years. He then was trained as a travel agent in the same company, while simultaneously working in a car rental company.
While studying, he also volunteered first as a translator for Saga for a year helping refugees, then as a project designer in Vision Hope, an organization that provides aid to the camps in Jordan, Yemen and Syria
After passing the required exam, he was qualified by Barmenia to change his field of work to become a financial and insurance consultant, after which the BKK Partner, a government health insurance company, hired him as its first official Arabic speaker, to work as a link with Arabs living in the city who seek health insurance but lack the language.
Jasir said that he has more aspirations both for his career and his political activism (being an active member in the German Green Party), thanking his friend Barakat Ubaidah for all his support and encouragement, and urging his peers and fellow refugees to seize all available opportunities to better their lives.
