116 killed by Syrian regime forces during Eid


World Bulletin - At least 116 people were killed by government forces in fighting across Syria during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, opposition activists have said.

The deaths included 21 children and 16 women, according to the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights.

According to a statement from the group, the three-day festivities to mark the end of Ramadan saw attacks in Aleppo, Deraa and Idlib.

At least 17 people were killed in a missile attack launched by Syrian government forces on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said on Wednesday, when a market in Douma was targeted.

The London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights watchdog said that 63 people had been killed on Wednesday, including 31 in Aleppo, 19 in Damascus suburbs, four in Idlib, Homs, Latakia and Hama, etc.

Syrian official news agency SANA confirmed that Assad’s forces had killed rebels in eastern Aleppo, Homs and central eastern Aleppo provinces.

Syria has been gripped by violence since the regime launched a crackdown in response to anti-government protests in March 2011. The network said 126,534 have been killed since.
