(Zaman Alwasl- Special)- Syrian opposition’s National Coalition offices in the United States will be closed in two weeks over allegation of violating American laws for fiscal dealing, a well-informed source told Zaman Alwasl.
The source assured that the closure decision was already taken, and will be implemented within two weeks, if Coalition fails to find out a solution for the proclaimed violations.
Until now the Coalition has been represented by liaison offices in Washington and New York despite being considered as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people by the U.S.
The U.S decision might raise question marks since the White house said last May it would recognize the main opposition Syrian National Coalition offices as a diplomatic foreign mission and it would be considered under U.S. law, according to Reuters.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said on May 5 (the recognition) would facilitate banking and security services for the opposition in the United States and help it reach out to Syrians living in the United States. But the latest decision tells more about difficulties Key opposition group has been facing, according to analysts.
