Protesters clash with police outside court in Beirut

Lebanese security forces fired volleys of tear gas at protesters trying to remove barbed wire outside the military court in Beirut.

Dozens of Lebanese protesters took to the streets in Beirut on Friday, demanding the release of activists detained following riots in northern Lebanon late last month.

The protest was peaceful until protesters clashed with the police.

Rioters set fire to several government buildings in Tripoli late last month capping days of violent clashes as anger over growing poverty made worse by the lockdown boiled over.

Lebanon is going through a myriad of crises.

In less than a year, Lebanon was hit by an economic meltdown, mass protests, financial collapse, a virus outbreak and a cataclysmic explosion that virtually wiped out the country's main port.

Bickering politicians have been unable to form a government, putting an international bailout out of reach.
