Death toll from Egypt lake shipwreck climbs to 9

Rescue workers in Egypt were still searching Tuesday for at least five people missing after a boat sank in a lake near Alexandria, leaving nine people dead.

The people who died, including three young children, were all from the same family, according to reports.

The boat had at least 19 people on board when it capsized late Monday in the Lake of Mariut.

Relatives spent the night on the shoreline, hoping their loved ones could be rescued or their bodies retrieved.

Calls for volunteer divers to help with the search were circulated on social media.

Alexandria's governor said the boat was small and overcrowded.

Most boats on the lake are unlicensed, he said.
