18 Palestinian journalists killed by Assad regime in ten years: monitor

 The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria said on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day that 18 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Syria since the conflict erupted ten years ago.

According to the Britain-based monitoring group, five more journalists are still arrested by the Syrian regime. (Muhannad Omar, Ali Al-Shehabi, Rami Hajjo and Ahmed Jalil).

Five media activists died of torture in the security chambers. (Niraz Saeed, Khaled Bakrawi, Hassan Hassan, Alaa Naji and Bilal Ahmed).

Names of the victims: Fadi Abu Ajaj, Jamal Khalifa, Ahmed Al-Sahli, Bassam Hamidi, Ahmed Taha, Bilal Saeed, Jihad Shehabi, Yamen Zahir, Tariq Ziyad Khader, Iyas Farhat, Ghassan Shehabi, Ahmed Kousa and Munir Al-Khatib.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said Monday that at least 709 journalists and media workers have been killed in the war-torn country since March 2011, including 52 due to torture.
