Yarmouk Camp: Russia prevented residents of visiting Martyrs Cemetery

The Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria said Sunday that checkpoints belonging to the Russian forces have prevented the residents of the Yarmouk refugee camp from reaching the old martyrs cemetery in southern Damascus suburbs during the Eid Al-Fitr feast.

The Russian forces and the Syrian intelligence are still erecting their checkpoints at the Al-Thalathen Street and on the side of the Al-Mughrabi" neighborhood, stressing that Russian elements were seen in the vicinity of the old cemetery and prevented the crossing of the people, while the Yarmouk camp residents and officials headed Palestinians to visit the new cemetery and did not mention the arrival of any official or civilian to the cemetery.

The Britain-based monitoring group said the camp residents are likely to continue exhuming graves in search of the remains of Israeli soldiers who were previously missing in Lebanon in 1982.

AGPS stressed that the Martyrs Cemetery in the camp was devastated and destroyed as a result of repeated bombardment by the regime forces during the events of the war
