Bodies of 13 Syrian army forces were found Saturday in the Syrian desert, two days after a group of 30 troops went missing in an area controlled by the Islamic State militants, local news site said Sunday.
Al-Sharqiya24 Network said the bodies of slain troops were found near the Arak oil field in the Palmyra desert east of Homs city.
Daesh fighters have ramped up their attacks in the past months against regime forces and allied militias.
Daesh has also killed 5 fighters of Iran-linked Fatimiyoun Brigade militia near the historic city of Palmyra, according to Al-Sharqiya24.
Islamic State militants are still controlling pockets through Homs province and eastwards to the Iraqi border, and continue to carry out deadly attacks against regime forces and allied Iranian militias.
They were expelled from their last patch of territory in eastern Syria in March 2019, but have retained a presence in the vast Badia desert.
Opposition factions and hardline groups have killed more than 220,000 pro-regime forces since the armed conflict erupted nine years ago, according to local monitoring groups.
