Christian Eriksen awake and stable at hospital, Denmark vs Finland match resumes after suspension

In a big relief to the football fraternity across the globe, the governing body of Denmark football on Saturday said that Christian Eriksen is stable and awake at a hospital in Copenhagen where he is being treated after he collapsed on the field during their Euro 2020 match against Finland.

Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch just before half-time when he was about to receive the ball for a throw-in. Fans at the Parken Stadium were left in tears as Eriksen received CPR by the medical team during the match. Denmark's players formed a ring around Eriksen to ensure privacy when the player was getting medical attention.

"Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for further examinations," Denmark football body said in a statement.

Meanwhile, UEFA, the governing body of European football, also confirmed the same and said the Group B match between Finland and Denmark will continue at 8:30 pm CET, 12 am IST (Sunday, June 13). The other Group B match between Belgium and Russia will get underway as scheduled at 9 pm CET.

"Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC). The last five minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half," the UEFA said.

"The match has been suspended due to a medical emergency which involved Denmark’s Christian Eriksen. The player in now in hospital and in a stable condition. UEFA wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude," it added.

"Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith," Ceferin said.

"At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully." he added.

The Group B game was goalless in the first-half before it was suspended on Saturday.
