Syrian regime offers displaced farm lands for leasing: monitor

The Syrian regime has offered displaced farm lands in northwestern Syria in public auctions for leasing or investment, a human rights group said Sunday.

Syrians for Truth and Justice assured that the ownership of the confiscated lands belongs to civilians who were forced to flee the northern and western countryside of Hama and southern Idlib in February 2020 following a military campaign by the Syrian forces and allied militias.

The monitoring group said the regime had confiscated about 6,000 hectares  between July and November 2020.

Most confiscation operations targeted lands planted with pistachios and olives, wheat, barley, sugar beets, cotton, corn, vegetables and potatoes, as well as a number of major fish farms in Syria, specifically in the Ghab Plain region.
