Syria regime to halt exports transit at Jordan border crossing

Syrian government has stopped ratifying certificates of origin on Thursday which means stopping export to the Arab Gulf through Jordan, sources told Eqtsad news website.

The Vice-Chairman of the Export Committee in the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, Fayez Qasouma, said that stopping the export will be until the transit passage is achieved easily without any complications, in addition to working in accordance with the reciprocity agreement regarding transit expenses, without the Jordanian side taking more expenses than the Syrian side, so that these expenses are in dollars without exchanging it into dinars.

The ministry of economy confirmed that it had contacted the Jordanian authorities to solve the problem of trucks stuck at the border, and obtained a promise from the Jordanian Ministry of Interior to increase the working hours at the crossing in order to increase the number of Syrian trucks that are allowed to pass.

The exports through Jordan will not be resumed until the problem of stuck trucks is finally resolved, the ministry said.
