Two killed as clashes renew between Kurdish militia, rebels in Hasakah

Two Turkish-backed rebels were killed Friday as fresh clashes renewed with Kurdish forces in northwestern Hasakah province amid a local wave of  displacement, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

The YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces launched an attack on the bastions of the National Army stationed between Tel Tamar and Abu al-Rasayn villages.

Turkish forces created a 120-kilometre (75-mile) "safe zone" in September 2019 between Tal Abyad and the town of Ras al-Ain, pushing the YPG out of the area.

Turkey claims the YPG is a "terrorist" offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has fought an insurgency against the Turkish state since 1984.
