Wahhabi women under regime scope: leaked document

By George Hadad; Translation by Dani Murad

(Zaman Alwasl)- Syrian women not only have borne the burden of the country’s brutal three-year war, but many having taken on new roles as political activists, detainees, humanitarians ,family breadwinners, and a lot have been under regime’s constant observation for fake accusations.

In this context, and in its concentrated efforts to expose the truth, Zaman Alwasl continues to publish exclusive leaks from the “Political Security Directorate” in Raqqa, with a document that goes back to late 2008, nearly two years and 3 months before the beginning of the Syrian Revolution.

The document shows regime’s noticeable interest in prosecuting and monitoring the “followers of Wahhabism,” with so many periodic reports written about them.

However, the eye-catching matter in this document, which will be revealed in the end of this article, is that prosecuting Wahhabi followers was not only limited to men, as other leaks will show, but included “women” as well, and this document mentioned 9 women from “Ma'daan”, where the report was directed by head of the Political Security Unit in Ma'daan, Raqqa.

Moreover, the secret document presents the name of the accused who allegedly embraced "Wahhabiism" with the name of her parents, and the date and place of birth, as well as her residence and current work, and "the degree of education!"

Interestingly, according to the document, all the women accused of Wahhabisim (except one) work in the field of education and have college or institute degrees, which mean they are graduates of higher education institutions.

And as we clarified earlier, it’s one of regime’s main tactics even before the revolution and since the days of Hafez Al Assad, to use the word “Wahhabi” to describe any religious person who opposes regime’s methodology, an accusation almost equivalent to "Alakhounji" which means in regime’s ideology “conspirator” and “rebellious”.

And since the beginning of the Syrian revolution, the regime has intensified the usage of such accusations and circulated them on its media, to be repeated day and night on their followers and supporters, describing any opponent to regime’s criminality and corruption as “Wahhabi”.
