(Zaman Alwasl)- Syrian regime forces on Thursday have launched a major offensive on Jobar neighborhood in Damascus on Thursday, using the aerial bombardment and ground-to-ground missiles, activists and a monitoring group said.
Activists said that rebels have killed 40 soldiers in a blast targeted regime forces barracks.
Bashar al-Assad’s warplanes, in response, have carried out 18 raids on Jobar amid heavy firing by the regime forces on the neighborhood, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
This attack is considered the most violent since the control of the Islamic battalions and al-Qaeda Syria’s wing al-Nusra Front over the neighborhood, according to the Observatory.
Activists say Assad's forces have stormed the embattled neighborhood by 100 Iranian-made missiles, claimed to be ground-to-ground.
Pro-regime activists said Syrian Arab Army begins major operations in Jobar after destroying tunnels and targeting terrorists' strongholds.
