Russian strikes on Idlib kill three: report

Russian air strikes have killed three people and injured 12 others, including women and children, in northwest Syria's Idlib, a UK-based Syrian war monitor said on Friday.

The strikes hit targets in al-Yaaqubiyah area on the outskirts of the rebel-held town of Jisr al-Shughur, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

The death toll is likely to increase as some of the injuries were described as "critical", the Observatory said.

The strikes coincided with the firing of 30 rockets by Syrian regime forces on the village of al-Qahira in the Sahl al-Ghab area of neighbouring Hama province, the SOHR said.

Most of Idlib is controlled by jihadist groups and Turkish-backed rebels, while the Syrian regime and its allies control the rest of the province.

From 26 April to 19 August, 843 civilians were killed when Russia and the Syrian regime targeted Idlib's de-escalation zone.
