400 migrants disembarked at the southern Italian port of Pozzallo on Saturday, after rescued by the German charity Sea Watch over the past week.
The crew picked up a total of 446 people in five separate operations, but several were evacuated for medical treatment while waiting for the Italian government to assign a port for docking.
According to the UN refugee agency, more than 66,000 people arrived in Italy by sea from Northern Africa and the Middle East in 2021.
It estimates that more than 1,800 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean sea to reach Europe.
