1000 food poisoning cases registered in Latakia in 10 days

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 1000 food poisoning cases have been registered in Latakia province within 10 days, source told Zaman al-Wasl.

Assad University Hospital in the Mediterranean city said the poisoning was due to eat Palmida fish.

As poverty digs hard in Bashar al-Assad’s homeland province, Palmida fish with its cheap price has become the main meal for poor society.

Activists said this fish, which has a dry and no appetite meat, is the basic meal for most people in coastal area.

Syrian coastal cities have been suffering high rates of pollution as well decline in fisheries.

Scientists say there is a wide range of toxins present in seawater which are produced by any number of agents such as marine plankton and algae. These are capable of a range of health problems such as ciguatera poisoning although this is uncommon.
