Aleppo rebels seize strategic Police Headquarters in Old City


ALEPPO (Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian rebels on Thursday took control of police headquarters in the Old City of Aleppo, regime's strategic stronghold, as they recapture two villages in northern countryside were seized by the Islamic State, activists and monitoring group said.

 Footage posted online by Islamist rebels showed mass destruction in the building which turned to rubble.

Some rebel commanders said that Bashar al-Assad forces detonated the building before their withdrawal. Now, rebels' second target is to seize Aleppo citadel, some say.

 In relevant development, al-Qaeda armed wing in Syria, al-Nusra Front and other islamist groups  have taken control of al-Hesyi and al Wardeyi villages in the northern countryside after violent clashes with Islamic State fighters, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

Rebels’ advance comes to halt IS mounting power which captured 11 towns and villages in Aleppo countryside last August.

Meanwhile, a rebel commander revealed to Zaman al-Wasl that sincere efforts had been made by the Islamic Front, key rebel group north Syria,  to reconstruct fighting groups and to overcome rifts, threatening  to holding perpetrators to account.

Representatives of key rebel groups in Aleppo, including moderate Free Syrian Army, have met recently to set a new agenda to halt Is rapid advances, saying to divide the province into main sectors.
