Idlib: Artillery, cluster bomb kill two civilians, including child

A child was killed on Wednesday when a cluster bomb left behind from the war exploded in agricultural land near the town of Jisr al-Shughur in northern Idlib province.

Zaman Al-Wasl reporter in Idlib said that the 9-year-old boy died of his injuries sustained yesterday afternoon, and his 10-year-old cousin was seriously injured.

A shepherd was also wounded and more than 40 sheep died, as a result of intense artillery shelling by the regime forces on Wednesday, targeting the town of Sufuhan in the Jabal Al-Zawiya region, south of Idlib.

Iranian militias stationed within the 46th Regiment in the western countryside of Aleppo intensified their artillery and missile bombardment, targeting the villages and towns of Kafr Ta'al, Kafr Amma, Taqad, and Tadil in the same countryside. No human casualties were reported.

Northwestern Syria is home to 3.5 million refugees but is controlled by opposition Islamist fighters.

Since the ceasefire deal reached in March 2020, the Russian-backed regime has stopped short of launching a fully-fledged land offensive to deliver on its promise to reconquer the entire country. But violations of the ceasefire are relatively frequent as regime forces try to maintain their stranglehold on the enclave.

Syria’s conflict began in March 2011 and has killed nearly half a million people and displaced half the country’s pre-war population of 23 million.
