Daraa: Gunmen attack Assad's checkpoints al-Sanamayn town

Unidentified gunmen launched separate attacks on Saturday, targeting military and security checkpoints in the town of al-Sanamayn in southern Daraa province.

Zaman al-Wasl correspondent said the attacks affected the checkpoints of "Qaita, al-Souk, the Moustafa complex, and al-Zein Street," noting that the clashes took place with light and medium weapons.

Casualties were reported among Assad's forces, he added.

In retaliation, the regime forces mobilized troops around the town and sent reinforcements from the Ninth Division and security branches located on the outskirts of the town.

Al-Sanamayn witnessed many armed clashes over the past three years, such as the storming of the town with tanks, violent clashes, and the displacement of dozens of young men who refused the settlement to northern Syria.

In August 2018, a Russian-brokered reconciliation agreement was reached in southern Syria led to the militants handing over their weapons and displacing a number of them to the northern region, but despite this, skirmishes and sporadic military operations are still taking place in the first stronghold of the Syrian revolution.
