A German woman returning from Syria (Verina-M) may prosecuted and imprisoned to several years on charges of membership in a "terrorist organization" and "kidnapping of children", according to the German Bild daily.
Verina-M returned to Germany and is now standing before the "Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court" where the "Bild" reporter Bjorn Strabzel met her for the first time in al-Hol camp in northern Syria, where she used to live after the fall of ISIS.
She was veiled and fully covered in 2020, 6 years after her escape to Syria.
Based on an investigation it did about Verena's life, Bild said Verina-M started her life normally, as she completed several professional courses, and she loved to have fun and enjoy in nightclubs, before she met her first husband at the age of 18. According to the newspaper, the two Germans surrendered to the Kurdish militias in the spring of 2019, where (Verina) went to the al-Hol camp, while (Mahmoud) was placed in a prison, where he is said to have died.
According to Bild, the German Foreign Ministry and the German intelligence (BKA) have returned Verena M. to Germany, and a verdict is expected against her at the end of June.
