Kurdish Asayish seizes government institutions in Qamishli

Kurdish Asayish forces took control of state-run institutions in the northeastern city of Qamishli in response to Syrian regime forces siege on Kurdih -held neighborhood in Aleppo city, local activists told Zaman al-Wasl Thursday.

The escalation came despite a Russian mediation to defuse tension in Aleppo.

Activist Mahmoud al-Ahmad told Zaman al-Wasl that units of the Asayish, the internal security arm of the powerful Democratic Union Party, expelled the regime's government employees on Thursday morning from the "Finance Directorate, Teachers' Union, Grain corporation, Revolution Youth Organization, the Cultural Center, the Educational Complex, the Agricultural Bank, the Electricity Department, the Agricultural Association, and the Syndicate Complex".

This came after a series of meetings between party leaders and officers of the regime forces, via a Russian, with the aim of ending the tension, but it did not bring results that would satisfy the Kurdish leaders, according to "Al-Ahmad."

The Asayish expelled the workers of the state-run bakery in Qamishli, and prevented the arrival of flour and fuel to it and to the "Al-Masaken '' bakery in Hasaka city a few days ago.

Local activists said that the escalation of the Asayish is a response to the "Fourth Division"  besieging the SDF-controlled neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafyia in Aleppo and preventing flour entry, which caused the loss of bread last week.
