IS attacks Kurdish-led forces in Deir Ezzor

The Islamic State declared responsibility for an operation against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) east of Deir Ezzor province, the pro-accounts of the group said on Telegram platform Sunday.

In a statement, the IS claimed the killing of a member of the "SDF", following an operation carried out by the organization's elements in the town of "Theban" in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

The IS also announced on Sunday night, through an audio speech by the new official spokesman for the organization called "Abu Omar Al-Muhajir", the launch of a series of operations under the name "Battle of Revenge" for the former leader, "Abu Ibrahim Al-Hashemi Al-Qurashi", and the former IS spokesman, "Abu Hamza Al-Qurashi." .

The Islamic State had announced in an official statement, through an audio speech by "Abu Omar al-Muhajir" on March 10, the appointment of "Abu al-Hassan al-Hashemi al-Qurashi" as the new leader of the jihadi organization, confirming the killing of its leader, "Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi", who died in February 3, when he blew himself up during a landing operation carried out by a US commando unit on a house where he was staying with his family in the Atma area in northern Idlib region.

Despite the fall of IS's "caliphate" in 2019, the group continues to launch deadly attacks from hideouts in the Syrian desert, which extends from the outskirts of the capital Damascus to the Iraqi border.

Syria’s conflict began in March 2011 and has killed nearly half a million people and displaced half the country’s pre-war population of 23 million.
