Floods make partial damage in IDP camps in northern Syria

The Syria Response Coordinators team said that 19 IDP camps for the displaced were damaged due to foolds in the northern countryside of Idlib, and in the western countryside of Aleppo.

The relief group indicated that the field teams are trying to reach the affected camps to count the recent damage, with concerns of more damages if rain storms continue.

The IDP camps in northern Syria suffer from lack of humanitarian response operations by the organizations operating in the region.

The Response Team stressed that "the humanitarian response has not yet reached the required extent and all of them have a limited impact."

The group called for immediate humanitarian support in all IDP camps and focused on infrastructure works and road repairs for fear of increasing damages.

According to the team, 81 tents were damaged last Sunday within seven sectors, including 17 IDP camps, as a result of heavy rains that caused torrential rains and strong winds to swept away many of the tents.

Northwestern Syria is home to 3.5 million refugees but is controlled by the Turkish-backed opposition factions and by Islamist HTS fighters.

The Syrian conflict - which led to the loss of at least 500,000 lives and displaced more than 13,2 million people -  began in 2011 after the Assad regime brutally cracked down on peaceful pro-democracy protests.
