Rebel-held areas mark rise of assassinations


 (Zaman Al Wasl)- Unknown armed group on Thursday has killed a rebel commander and Syrian journalist in Marrat al-Nu’man in the eastern countryside of Idlib province, source told Zaman al-Wasl.

Hussein al-Qasim, commander of ‘Ashab al-Yameen’ battalion with journalist Mohamed al-Qasim were killed early Thursday.

Recently, Syria’s rebel-held areas have witnessed an escalation in the pace of assassinations.

On Thursday, Soqour al-Sham leader, Ahmed Issa al-Sheikh, has escaped an assassination attempt, just two days after the tragic loss of Ahrar al-Sham movement for almost 50 rebel fighters, including its leader Hassan Abboud and his fellow commanders by an mysterious explosion hit their secret meeting in Idlib, activists said.

Also, the principal of Sharia in Al-Qaeda Syria’s wing, Nusra Front, in Jisr al-Shogour were killed when an armed group shot him dead after dawn prayer on Wednesday.

Rebels, who have been engaged in bloody war the Islamic State group since last January, are massing fighters to confront the radical group which has shot, beheaded and crucified 3473 people, mostly Syrians, since the group appeared in Syria in 2013, Syrian Network for Human Rights said.

According to the report, 782 of killings were civilians, including 138 children and 139 women, 2691 were from Free Syrian Army, Islamic battalions, Syrian regime army and Kurdish troops.
