(Zaman Al Wasl)- Al Qaeda's Syria wing Nusra Front and other Islamist fighters have taken full control of a border line dividing Syria from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after capturing many villages in the area, activists said.
The fighters, who have vowed to "liberate" the area, have captured al-Rawadhi and al-Hamidiya villages on Friday, in step to take over the whole province of Quneitra, a week after taking control of strategic border crossing from Bashar al-Assad forces, according to Reuters.
Israel captured the western part of the strategic plateau from Syria in a 1967 war and annexed it, a move that is not internationally recognized.
Activists said city which liberated from Israel in 1973, will be the second territory after Raqqa out of Syrian regime’s control.
Shelling from the Syrian civil war has occasionally reached into the Israeli-controlled Golan, occasionally causing injuries and damage to soldiers and civilians. Israel has said the firing has sometimes been deliberately aimed at its troops, Reuters said.
